The Old Scottish Ways,

Look at the man with the white hair painting a picture.

That was my great Uncle Lyle. He was a famous Canadian artist, and to many he was a legend. Uncle Lyle was quite literally a rebel without a cause back in the day. He worked for the military for a while but decided to go to school and become a commercial artist. He was one of my favorite great uncles cuz we used to talk about art whenever we saw him. He and I wanted to get together and draw, but we never got a chance unfortunately. I'll miss him.

It wasn't until today when I started to realize how sparse my family really is. After my Nana died, and I went to his funeral I realized two things:
A) I have barely anyone left. It was only me, my Mom, my two brothers and my uncle and aunt (whom I'm most likely going to lose touch with because she's a bitch) Plus my dad's side of the family is sparse too...there is no one at all left.
B) Even though you feel stranded sometimes and you feel like your slowly disappearing somehow, it's not until you see the family that you actually have at a function that you realize how big your family actually is, and how much they love you no matter what.

You may not see this family for...10 years, maybe less, maybe more. But they are still your blood, and they are still your family and the stunning realization I made today was that they love you. For a long time I never thought that they did, but when you get a bunch of old/young, VERY Scottish MacDonalds into one room there is NO way that you can avoid a connection.

I like to think that my Mom and my two brothers and my Uncle are like independant renegades in this world, with LOTS of connections. And even though we go through a HELL of a lot of shit, there will always be an army to back us up, and a saftey net to catch us when we're in trouble.

R.I.P Uncle Lyle.

[hug] I'm so sorry :( You're totally right. Family is family no matter how often you see them. <333!
